1. Only use a secure internet connection<\/strong>
If you\u2019re browsing at work, this part is already done for you. But if you\u2019re at home or on a public wifi, you\u2019ll need to take extra precautions to make sure your connection is secure. At home, set up a strong password for your router. Also be sure to hide your network and keep you\u2019re your router firmware up to date. Getting some work done at a coffee shop? This is not the best time to pay bills or shop online, as you can\u2019t verify the security of this internet connection and may be exposing yourself to cybercriminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Choose strong passwords and update them<\/strong>
A long and complicated password is no good if it\u2019s been your default password for 10 years. Make sure to create strong passwords, but also remember to update them frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Keep your system antivirus software current<\/strong>
It\u2019s very tempting to hit \u201cremind me later\u201d with every alert, but this habit could come back to bite you. Make sure to keep your antivirus software up to date. After all, it was employee negligence like this that led to multiple cyberattacks across government and public sectors<\/a> so far in 2019. Don\u2019t open the door for someone to hold your files ransom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Don\u2019t overshare<\/strong>
Avoid putting any private information online that could lead to an attack or breach. This includes your full legal name, address and date of birth, and of course, credit card and social security numbers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Be alert<\/strong>
\nHackers and cybercriminals are always evolving to come up\nwith new ways around firewalls. Always be aware of something that seems out of\nthe ordinary or too good to be true. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
